Vicuñas, also known as little camels, live in the South American Andes at an altitude of up to 5,000 meters. There they develop fur that defies the extremely cold climate and whose fineness is unmatched by any other animal.
The vicuña population is estimated to be only around 270,000 animals worldwide - as only the fine undercoat is used, the 'harvest' is extremely small, making vicuña wool an extremely rare, precious product and one of the rarest precious hairs in the world.
