Origin of the name
Everything comes from the most powerful symbol that existed during the time of the Venetian Republic. The ducal or dogal horn is a headdress worn by the Venetian doges and worn over a white cap similar to the papal camauro, an annual gift from the nuns of San Zaccaria.
The ducal horn, consisting of a round crown and a pointed cap on the back, resembled in shape the Phrygian cap worn by Byzantine soldiers and Duxventians in earlier times.
